KISMET WIFI SNIFFER

Kismet is an 802.11 layer2 wireless network detector, sniffer, and intrusion detection system. Kismet will work with any wireless card which supports raw monitoring (rfmon) mode, and (with appropriate hardware) can sniff 802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g, and 802.11n traffic. Kismet also supports plugins which allow sniffing other media such as DECT.

Kismet identifies networks by passively collecting packets and detecting standard named networks, detecting (and given time, decloaking) hidden networks, and infering the presence of nonbeaconing networks via data traffic.

Latest Kismet release is Kismet-2011-03-R2.
Kismet releases are now based on the Kismet-Newcore code branch! Be sure to read the README for how to migrate to the new code and what has changed in the configuration!

Ubuntu Packages - For whatever reason, Ubuntu has stopped updating Kismet in their repositories.
Kismet (server, drone, base plugins) 32bit (gpg sig) 64bit (gpg sig)
Kismet restricted plugins (autowep, aircrack-ptw) 32bit (gpg sig) 64bit (gpg sig)

To add Kismet as a repository and get updates automatically, add the following to your /etc/apt/sources.lst:
